Mamas, it has been a rough 6 weeks for EVERYBODY. I mean there is no way that we could have prepared for just how hard this would be, and we're all doing our best to make it through one day at a time. No matter what your day-to-day looked like before the lockdown, this is not an easy time to be a parent.
I can't be the only one who considered herself a "homebody" before the lockdown started, but I still had like three places that I enjoyed going, and it's killing me that those places aren't safe anymore. And the fact that we have to stay home makes us forget why we loved being here in the first place.
From all of my sweet mama friends that I have talked to since the quarantine started, no matter how tough you are (and you're all amazingly tough), it's okay to feel anxious about the future, sad about the loss of the life that you are used to living, and frustrated that we've all been tossed into this situation, regardless of its necessity. It can be especially hard to deal with all of these feelings AND trying to validate the way your babes are taking it and helping them understand why this is happening.
Since I figure we're all in the same boat, I came up with a few things we can all do together to help us combat our yucky feelings during lockdown:
Be Grateful
Keeping things into perspective is always important, but is super important during a time when all we want to do is complain. If every day we can start by being grateful for the things that we have in our lives that are GOOD, it will help shift our focus throughout the day. Whether you write them down in a journal, say a quick prayer of thanks, or take a few minutes to meditate in the morning, just going over the little things that are going right can make a huge change in attitude.
Take it Easy
We're all wearing way too many hats. The reason why we're not supposed to do all of the things is that we can't do them all perfectly. AND THAT'S OKAY. Take it easy. Don't be so hard on yourself (easier said than done, I know) and remember that you are doing the best you can in a really crappy situation. And that doesn't even mean that you have to give 100% every single day, either. There is absolutely no reason why you should be draining your mental health cup dry every single day just to get up and do it all over again. It's exhausting and hard and you can't sustain it. So make sure to find your balance, don't overthink it, and do your best to roll with the punches. Take a drive solo during the week to clear your head. Sit your littles down with their tablets so you can have some quiet time. Take it easy and remember that this won't last forever!
Mix it Up
I know that I'm not the only one out there who feels like she is burnt out. So if you are just about at your breaking point and you need a little change up to your quarantine routine (if there is such a thing?), then come play with The Baby Cubby! And no, we don't mean in person, because...social distancing.
Since we're all still in quarantine, we're having a game of hide and seek on thebabycubbywarehouse.com. And if you're wondering what you could possibly want to be seeking on our website, the answer is obviously SAVINGS, mama!
