1. Why did you start your company?
I’ve been asked this question many times and though I’ve always wanted an incredible and inspiring story, the truth is that I simply love hats. My husband used to tease me and call me “that crazy hat lady”… if he only knew then what we were getting into.
2. Tell me about the journey of your company?
The incredible part of the Gigi Pip story (in my opinion) is how much the company grew as soon as a purpose was tied to it. There was a point prior to launch where everything seemed to be in a bit of a slump… the website design didn’t seem to flow, content and product names weren’t quite fitting, I can’t even tell you how much debate went into the logo. We were starting to get in a bit of panic mode to be straight honest with you… We were heavily invested at this point and knew we’d be in trouble if we didn’t get launched before the holidays. It was about that time that a good friend of mine was discussing branding with me and used the phrase “for the women who wear many hats.” This phrase immediately struck a chord as it seemed to sum up everything that we were hoping to express with our hats. We implemented this theme into every part of the business form the packaging to the names of our hats and it seemed like overnight the company became unified under a vision. That is what made Gigi Pip the success it is today.
3. What has been the most satisfying achievement so far?
Pressing LIVE on our website that very first night. Black Friday! We pulled 2

The mom/work life balance. I’ve never been a super good schedule keeper, but it’s not really a choice anymore. I’ve had to learn to wake up earlier than the kids + stay on task. Two things that don’t come naturally to me. Ha!
5. What advice would you give to other parents/moms trying to start their own companies from home?
Write down your goals!! Reflect on them often, or hang them some place you can see every day. They might feel outrageous in the beginning, but at some point you’ll be so glad you have them written on paper.
6. What makes Gigi Pip stand out, what makes your products and brand different?
Gigi Pip is not simply a hat store, it’s an initiative to highlight the many roles that women live in their lives and the inspiring ways that so many women embrace them. We truly believe that a quality hat can add a sense of confidence in women that we hope, even in a small way, will help them embrace the roles they lead.
7. What have you learned about parenting and family as you’ve started your company?
It’s all about balance. But balance is impossible when it comes to this topic, so you’re pretty much out of luck 🙂 Not but really, set the ground rules! Schedule time where work disappears. It’s been neat to let the boys be included in little jobs here + there. Like racing to carry in boxes at the post office or who can put the stickers on top the quickest. We try to make it fun. Life is too short to take that seriously. 8. What do you wish you had known when you started that you have learned?
Go to bed, the work will still be waiting there for you when you wake up! Also, don’t lose sight of what you do best, your strong points + why you started the business. Hire out the rest of it!
9. What is your favorite thing about owning your own business?
Having the whole family involved. Working side by side with my husband. He deserves every bit of success GP ever achieves. He’s the heart behind it all. I’m also curious to see if the kids will remember this phase of life where we all pitched in to make things work. Long nights packaging orders, answering emails, etc. We are sort of still in the newborn phase, so I’m wondering how things will evolve as time goes on.
10. What are some of your favorite activities to do with your children?
Bike riding, building legos as tall as we can + then taking turns knocking them over, visiting grandma’s house, taking dad treats at work + checking off our family bucket list items together. We always aim to include some bigger + some smaller adventure ideas on our list. We write them together at the end of each season + hang them right on the side of the fridge so we can see them daily. The kids live for these adventures + so do we.
11. What advice would you give to first time moms?
IT’S WORTH IT! The sleepless nights, the painful nursing, the anxiety, the tears, the fear — it is worth it! Also, I’d tell you to write down your thoughts. I always swore I would remember everything, but I’ve quickly learned that I don’t. Like not even close. Grateful I took the time to write down my feelings during those beginning moments!
