SAHM: Some Days are Hard

SAHM: Some Days are Hard

Mamas, this is something that's been on my mind for a little while, and it's a little bit scary to talk about, because everyone has opinions about what mamas should or shouldn't be doing when they stay at home. But here's the truth--some days are hard.

Shocking? To any mama, probably not. But I feel like we still need to talk about it.

If you're a SAHM and there are days when your man doesn't get home before bed time (or even before YOUR bedtime), then you know the kind of hard days I'm talking about.

If you had to take both your toddler and your baby to the OBGYN with you and they both whined and cried and squirmed the entire time you were there, then you know the kind of hard days I'm talking about.

If you didn't get to go to the bathroom without at least one child in your face asking you about when he gets to go to school (on Tuesday), and when we're going on the airplane (no time in the near future), and why mama sits down to go potty (uhhhh), then you know the kind of hard days I'm talking about.

If you had to clean up every single toy off the floor by yourself because your kids were just not. getting. it., then you know the kind of hard days I'm talking about.

If you didn't get to take a shower today because your babes didn't take a nap, took forever to fall asleep at bedtime (oh, and woke up constantly throughout the night) and you are so tired you can barely keep your eyes open, then you know the kind of hard days I'm talking about.

If someone made a rude comment about your appearance, your parenting, your outfit... and you just couldn't shake the feeling of not being good enough, then you know the kind of hard days I'm talking about.

If you spent the time to make a homemade meal for the family that you were excited to serve, and the kids didn't eat a single bite and your husband got dinner with his work team then you know the kind of hard days I'm talking about.

If you can't fit into a pair of jeans that are so far past your ideal size, and you're thinking about yourself in the worst possible way, especially because of the fitness mamas on instagram, then you know the kind of hard days I'm talking about.

If your toddler refuses to listen to you when say, "Please get dressed. Will you please get your clothes on? Please please please!", and is just not hearing you, then you know the kind of hard days I'm talking about.

And in the end, every mama will have hard days. Every mama will have moments in her day (or several) that will add up to sheer exhaustion. Every mama will feel strung out, and worthless, and frustrated, and absolutely unqualified to be taking care of kids.

But in the end, every mama will have kids who adore her, who won't want to leave her alone even when she's in the bathroom, who will smother her with kisses for no reason. Kids who will say she's his best friend, and kids who will say, "I wub you, mama." when you tuck him in at night. So even though every mama has hard days, remember that tomorrow can be a good one.
